Freshness Burger

Freshness Burger, a fast food chain hailing from Japan, has recently opened its first outlet in Singapore at the newly opened Nex mall at Seragoon Central.
With no frozen ingredients used and burger buns baked in-store, Freshness Burger aims to provide fresher and more nutritious food than the average fast food chain. The homely ambience, ideal for chilling out after a bout of shopping, is also a stark contrast to the gaudy decor of fast food restaurants.
Freshness Burger's Spam burger epitomizes comfort food at best: soft buns sandwiching tender, salty luncheon meat with runny egg oozing out with every bite. Oh boy. I would gladly return for many, many rounds of this.

The onion rings were fabulous as well. Unlike those from a familiar fast food chain, Freshness Burger's version of this dish are prepared from fresh, sweet onions, which are then encased in a light and crisp batter. Worth every calorie, I say. If only the serving was more generous!

Freshness Burger

True to its claim to fame, the joint's namesake Freshness Burger ($4.50) was lighter than a typical burger. Aside from it being less greasy and the sausage patty less salty, the mandatory tomato slice in the hamburger was also unusually thick and provided a refreshing crunch. The pumpkin bun was satisfying tasty and soft, but overall I found this nothing out of the ordinary.
Popover & Matcha Latte

Light and slightly chewy, Freshness Burger's spectacularly high popovers ($3.30 each) went well with the cream cheese dip provided.
Fried Potatoes

Slab-cut from spuds sourced from the famed Hokkaido Farm, the delightfully puffy Fried Potatoes($2.80) were barely greasy but could have been more crisp.
Matcha Latte

Though decent, at $5.80 for a small cup half-filled with ice, the Matcha Latte was the most expensive drink I've ever purchased at a fast food outlet. Many of the other beverages on the menu also cost as much as those from joints like Coffee Bean and Starbucks. But again, the prices of the drinks may be justified by the comfortable ambience at Freshness Burger that matches up to that of premium coffee shops.

  2. You spent a total of $16.40 on fast food! And yours is the cheapest burger yet.

Heard the crowd at Nex is sheer madness. You must have queued up quite a bit for your burger.

  3. My mom went with her friends the other day and complained about its slow service. Taste-wise, they even thought Mos Burger was better! Ahaha.. I shall go try it for myself!

  4. You went to NEX! Haha I heard that it's bigger than Vivocity and Ion combined together. Is it true?! And yeah the Matcha Latte is kinda expensive

  5. i've been reading papers and tweets and what not, why is there so much fuss over nex (other than carpark). isn't it just another shopping mall? haha

  6. dirtystall: me too!

ice: nex wasn't very crowded when i was there on thursday, and i didn't have to queue as there were few customers around then. while i must agree that prices at freshness burger are on the higher side (especially the drinks!), better ingredients are apparently used here. i didn't mind forking out a little more for the homey ambience as well.

daniel: my food came quickly during my visit to freshness burger at noon on thursday, but there were few customers around then. i've never tried mos's hamburgers so i can't compare the two. looking forward to seeing your take on freshness burger!

foodoshoot: i didn't feel that nex was bigger than vivocity and ion combined... it's definitely one large shopping destination though!

harris: i don't understand the fuss about nex either, but i'm sure it'll provide Serangoon residents with many new dining and entertainment options!

  8. ian: i've never dined at the two places you've mentioned so i'm not in the best position to compare the two, but the freshness burger i got was less greasy than most fast food burgers.

  9. Not too shabby but nothing out of the ordinary. My fried potatoes weren't crisp and were served cold. My major gripe was that the waitresses were totally clueless about the ingredients & what constitute the burgers. They seem to be only overly keen on clearing the tables & removing your half-eaten food and that's probably only what they were good at. This shouldn't be the case since this is a franchise from Japan. They should be better trained in this area.

I still prefer Mos Burger for everything. I don't need organic fast food. My matcha latte was good but terribly pricey.
